You can join Way of the Blue very early in game and max ranking up in this covenant is possible by killing 30 scripted NPC invader. There's more scripted NPC invade in the game. For Pilgrims of Dark is much easier. Just finish the 3 extra stages and beat the boss Darklurker. Then you talk again to the covenant master it will max out. The new Dark Souls 2 DLC introduces several new areas, including: Shulva - Sanctum City, Dragon's Sanctum, Cave of the Dead, and Dragon's Rest. Each of these new zones has a distinctive flavor.

The worst would be Midir or Friede. The rest is just typical Dark Souls. Midir is the hardest dragon fight in all of Dark Souls, and is just one long, painful endurance test.
