I can confirm that the Kinect does not work at all with the Series X even as a webcam. I bought the Hyperkin (official licensed) adapter and tried to plug the Kinect to the Series X and it did not recognize it. I tried every USB port. Just to test the adapter I plugged the Kinect via USB to my old Xbox One and it worked perfectly.
