No, you need not toy with the manual time setting. As far as I know from all of my G-shocks, you just adjust the time zone setting. On my GWG-1000, my preferred international travel watch when I fly from the U.S. to Japan, when I land in Tokyo I simply unscrew the crown, pull it out and the watch automatically goes into time zone set mode.
